Blown off their feet
Concept art for Kitty City. A bearded man braces at the left with a pistol out and a cat clinging to his shoulder, a woman is thrown backwards across the centre of the sheet, and a blast of fire and debris comes in from the right carrying cats with it.
A single left-to-right shockwave organises everything: the man planted at one end, the woman in mid-air at the centre, the explosion filling the right. The Kitty City sign is lettered into the upper right where the blast is heaviest.
Black ink on white. No colour.
Solid brushed black for the blast with the debris cut back out of it in white, against clean unfilled contour in the two figures. The contrast between the drawn half and the painted half is what carries the force.
Ink on paper.
Signed with the artist's name at the centre and dated in MMDDYY beside it.
