Behind the club
Royce looming over Mersh behind the club, laughing with a glass raised, while Mersh stands below him in a shirt and tie with a cigarette and a bottle of beer. A tabby cat sits on the ground between them beside the dumpster.
A steep worm's-eye view with Royce enormous at the top and Mersh small beneath him, the dumpster closing the right. The cat sits at the base of the drawing where the two figures' feet meet.
Warm sand and ochre through the ground and the dumpster against the sage green of Mersh's trousers and the teal of Royce's sandals. Nothing is fully saturated.
Ink contour with washes kept light and uneven, the ground spattered while damp. The distortion of scale is drawn rather than achieved by perspective, which is what gives it the cartoon weight.
Watercolour and ink in a sketchbook, photographed as a page.
