Architecture — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A mid-century house on a sloping drive, its gable and tall windows catching the light, with heavy trees crowding behind it — framed, matted and hung on a wall.
The drive enters at the lower left and sweeps up to the right, and the house sits on the rise where it turns. The tree masses close the whole upper half and leave only a wedge of sky at the centre.
Turquoise sky through the branches, with the trees in olive, sage and bottle green. The house is bone and lavender with a warm rust wall at the left; the drive is a pale violet.
Transparent and fast, the foliage stamped in separate touches with sky showing between them, and the architecture drawn into with the point of the brush once the washes had dried.
Watercolour on paper, mounted and in a pale metal frame. A studio photograph of the framed work on a wall.
