Seascapes, Architecture — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A lifeguard headquarters seen from below the boardwalk, its upper storey cantilevered out, with two women walking toward the viewer and a crowd further along.
The building fills the left two thirds and is seen from a low corner so both faces are visible; the boardwalk runs away to the right and carries the figures. The shadows fall forward as hard diagonals.
A clean cerulean sky with white and lilac cloud, against a building of ochre, taupe and cream. The two walking figures carry the only reds in the picture.
Thick and square, each plane a single loaded stroke; the shadows are flat unmodulated violet laid straight down. The figures are three or four strokes each with no outline.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately loaded with the weave visible at the margins; photographed on the studio easel.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in red over the boardwalk, letters widely spaced.
