Landscapes, Sunsets, Architecture — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A seafront parade at dusk, shopfronts lit from within, with tall palms along the street and figures walking toward the viewer.
The buildings run away from the left edge on a strong diagonal and the open sky fills the right; the palms stand at intervals along the join. Two figures at the centre are the only ones given at any size.
Slate and teal through the sky going to pale gold at the horizon. The buildings are deep violet-grey, and the shop interiors burn amber and orange — the only warm light in the picture.
The darks are laid as flat masses with very little detail, and the lit windows are single strokes of unmixed orange cut into them. The sky is scrubbed in broad diagonal passes.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately loaded with the weave visible; photographed on the studio bench with the palette knife beside it.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in green over the road, letters widely spaced.
