Landscapes, Architecture, Seascapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A beach-town corner in full sun — a tall palm at the centre, a red-awninged shop at the right, bicycles racked at its foot and figures crossing the road.
The palm stands dead centre and runs the full height, which is unusual on this wall; the buildings run away to the left behind it and the shop closes the right edge. The road and its shadows fill the lower third.
A strong cerulean sky against cream and mint buildings, with the shop's awning in vermilion and crimson. The road is lavender and dove grey, crossed by cobalt shadow.
Loaded square strokes with the paint standing off the surface, each plane laid once and left. The figures are two or three marks each and the bicycles a scribble of thin dark strokes over dry paint.
Oil on canvas board. Thick, with the weave visible at the margins and a palette knife in the frame beside it.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in ochre over the road, letters widely spaced.
