Landscapes, Architecture — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

Three figures crossing a sunlit street with bags and bottles, a red car parked at the left, palms along the road and hills closing the distance.
The three walk left to right across the middle, evenly spaced and all cropped at the ankle by their own shadows, which run forward as hard diagonals. The road opens wide and empty behind them.
A deep cobalt sky over a road of pale lavender and bone. The car is vermilion and a second is cadmium yellow; the walkers carry turquoise, coral and white.
Figures are three or four loaded strokes each with no outline and no face; the shadows are single flat pulls of violet. The palms are thin trunks with dabbed crowns.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque, with a white margin round the painted area.
Lower left, raypatrick, in dark grey over the road, letters touching.
