Landscapes, Architecture — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A beach below a power station, its three stacks rising behind a line of houses, with umbrellas and bathers scattered across the sand.
Three horizontal registers — sky, town, sand — with the stacks the only verticals and placed left of centre. The beach takes the lower third and the figures on it are small and evenly spread.
A saturated cobalt sky against the stacks in pale grey and bone. The town runs cream, coral and mint; the sand is warm ochre with umbrellas in vermilion, cobalt and white.
Flat opaque planes with square ends, the buildings laid block by block with no drawn outline. The figures and umbrellas are single marks dropped onto the finished sand.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque, with a white margin round the painted area.
Lower right, raypatrick, in cobalt over the sand, letters touching.
