Landscapes, Architecture — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A hotel pool from the shaded deck, loungers ranked along the far side under white umbrellas, bathers in the water and a banana palm rising at the right.
Framed at both edges by darks — a tree trunk at the left, a seated figure in silhouette at the right — so the lit pool is seen through a gap. The loungers run left to right in a shallow arc and the festoon lights cross the upper third.
Cerulean and turquoise in the water and sky against white umbrellas and ochre decking. The two framing darks are nearly black and carry no detail at all.
Figures and furniture are abbreviated to single strokes with no outline; the water is a weave of short horizontal marks. The string lights are drawn last in one continuous dark line.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque, with a white margin and the title pencilled below the painted area.
Lower left, raypatrick, in white over the decking. Below the image, in pencil: Dream Hollywood Hotel.
