Landscapes, Architecture — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A street of low apartment blocks with very tall palms rising in front of them, a hedge and parked cars along the kerb, under a sky of cumulus.
The buildings run as a band across the middle and the palms cross them vertically, their crowns cropped by the top edge. The road takes the lower fifth and runs out to the left.
Deep cobalt sky with white cloud, against buildings of cream and bone. Three vermilion doorways are the only hot notes and they are spaced evenly across the facade; the foliage is a strong sap green.
Flat opaque planes with square-ended strokes, the architecture built block by block with no drawn outline. The palm trunks are single thin pulls laid over finished paint, and their crowns a handful of dark dabs.
Gouache on paper, 5 × 7 in. — read off the Fabriano block. Matte and opaque, with a deckle edge on all four sides.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in dark grey over the road, letters widely spaced.
