Landscapes, Architecture — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A residential street running inland, with a parked car, a utility pole close at the left, and low houses stepping away on both sides under a tall sky.
The road recedes to a vanishing point just left of centre and the pole runs the full height beside it, the one strong vertical. Cloud occupies the upper half and the buildings are compressed into a narrow band at the horizon.
Cobalt and periwinkle in the sky with white and pale grey cloud; the road is a warm mauve-grey. Pale yellow and cream on the sunlit houses are the only warm notes.
Flat opaque planes with square-ended strokes; the cloud is built from separate dabs whose edges stay visible. The pole is a single unbroken vertical laid over finished paint.
Gouache on paper. Matte and fully opaque, the pale cloud sitting solid over the blue. A white margin runs round all four sides.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in ochre over the road, letters widely spaced.
