Animals — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A comic page study of a bald man in green trousers crouched beside a great dark fish on a platter, with a second fish swimming below and a figure clinging to his back.
The whole scene is set on the diagonal inside a ruled panel that the figures break out of at three corners. The platter runs across the centre and the two fish face one another across it.
Emerald and teal through the water ground, with the fish in near-black and crimson. The figure is ochre and olive; the lower fish is coral and rust.
Pen line first, dense and unhesitating, with transparent colour laid inside it and the green ground flooded round everything at the end. The fish scales are drawn, not painted.
Watercolour with pen and ink in a spiral-bound sketchbook.
No signature visible within the drawn area.
