Animals, Seascapes, Sunsets — gouache painting by Ray Patrick
Two figures and a dog on wet sand at sunset, seen from behind, with their reflections running down the beach toward the viewer and the sun just above the horizon.
A wide format with the horizon high and the beach taking two thirds. The figures stand small and together right of centre, and their reflections make the longest vertical in the picture.
Cream and apricot through the sky with a band of scarlet at the horizon, over sand in ochre, olive and dove. A single stroke of orange is reflected on the wet sand below.
Thick horizontal strokes throughout, laid shoulder to shoulder and dragged so the colour beneath shows. The figures are two marks each and their reflections single vertical pulls.
Gouache on paper, thickly applied with the knife as much as the brush — closer to the oils in handling than to the other gouaches. A white margin runs below.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in red over the sand, letters widely spaced.
